The Transfer Challenge

UC San Diego is a big place, and as a transfer student, you only have a couple of years to get to know campus resources, faculty, staff, and fellow students.  Your undergraduate Colleges have your back!  We created the Transfer Challenge to help first-year transfer students navigate important campus resources.  Participate in fun weekly challenges - attend events, try new things - and as a bonus earn points for your efforts and redeem them for prizes.

Welcome Week Challenge: College Connections

    Attend the All-College Transfer Welcome 
    Thursday, September 26 | 4:00-6:00 pm, Stage Room, Student Center

    All incoming UCSD transfer students are invited to the Transfer Welcome – a social designed to help you meet other incoming transfers. Enjoy snacks; enter to win prizes; and learn about special events, opportunities, and groups that are designed for you.

    If you signed in at the event you will automatically receive 10 points! 
    As a special bonus, if you complete the Welcome Week submission form by Monday, October 1, 2018* and tell us about your experience at the social, you can earn an additional bonus point.

    Because this week is all about connecting with YOUR COLLEGE, check out your College specific challenge:

    Revelle:

    1. Download the Revelle College App on your smart device from the Apple or Google Play store
    2. Answer the question: What are three (3) opportunities available on the transfer resources tab? (Submit answer in the reflection question section of the Week 0 Submission form)

    Muir:

    1. Visit the Middle of Muir (MOM)/College Center.
    2. Answer the question: What, besides coffee and tea, is one thing you can purchase at the College Center? (Submit answer in the reflection question section of the Week 0 Submission form) 

    Marshall:

    1. Visit the Marshall College Administration building
    2. Answer the question: What resources are available through the Marshall College Administration building, what a student can learn by visitng, and how you can become familiar with where critical administrative resources are located? (Submit answer in the reflection question section of the Week 0 Submission form) 
    Warren: 
    1. Come to the Warren College Student Affairs Office to pick up your FREE Welcome Week Sticker and transfer resource handout
    2. Answer the question: What resource or opportunity open to Warren College transfers are you most likely to take advantage of? (Submit answer in the reflection question section of the Week 0 Submission form) 
    Roosevelt:
    1. Explore Eleanor Roosevelt College
    2. Answer the question: What is your favorite spot at Roosevelt College and why? (Submit answer in the reflection question section of the Week 0 Submission form)
    Sixth:
    1. Visit the Sixth College Commuter Lounge (also a GREAT resource for all Transfer students) located on the lower level of Pepper Canyon Hall.
    2. According to the Transfer Welcome poster, what does STORCS stand for and where do they meet?  Also, what is one way you could see yourself using the Commuter Lounge this year? (Submit answer in the reflection question section of the Week 0 Submission form)

    Interested in learning more about what life is like for transfer students at UC San Diego? Do you want to meet other transfer students and learn more about available campus resources?

    Join us for a casual discussion as a panel of returning transfer students share their experiences, tips, and tricks for success at UC San Diego.  Ask your questions and get information on the resources that helped them best navigate the university.  After, stay for a mixer and enjoy snacks as we continue the conversation.

    Reflect on what you heard/learned at the Transfer Student Panel & Mixer and share with us one thing that you would like to experience outside of the classroom before you graduate from UC San Diego.

    3. Who can support you or help you achieve this goal?
    4. Are there resources that you need to accomplish this? How will you go about finding them?

    Challenge yourself to continue the social connections and attend an information session, event, or meeting for a student organization that you would be interested in learning more about.

     

    Your Undergraduate College has a variety of great organizations to help you make connections and UC San Diego has a database of hundreds of student organizations and groups that you can choose from!

    Based on Clifton's Strengths, discover how to leverage your strengths when looking for jobs, internships, labs, and more during your first few weeks on-campus! Join staff at the UC San Diego Career Center for an interactive conversation on how you can best use your strengths in interviews, networking, on social platforms, and career preparation.

    Lunch will be provided to those who RSVP before the deadline.

    Invite a professor to join you for Coffee or Lunch

    Take advantage of the Coffee with a Professor or Dine with a Professor programs and invite a faculty member that you would like to know more about to join you for coffee or lunch.  These FREE programs are a great way to learn more about the faculty member, their field of study, potential careers, or even to just clarify information from a lecture or assignment and prepare yourself for midterms or finals.

    Visit a Campus Resource Center that you are interested in learning more about

    UC San Diego has many campus Resource Centers that provide support and community to students.  They are excellent student support resources.  Challenge yourself to visit one (or more!) Resource Center to learn more about their services, how to get connected, or how you can get involved.
