The University of California has made student satisfaction a priority. As the number of out-of-state and international students increases, UC San Diego has adopted new initiatives to meet the needs of these student populations. Specifically, two full-time staff members have been hired to serve as the Outreach Coordinators for International and Out-Of-State Students along with six College Interns.
The Outreach Coordinator Department works in the colleges to assist non-resident students with their transition to UC San Diego and helps students get acclimated to campus life and California culture. Our focus is on International and Out-Of-State students, but we also outreach to California students as well to create campus community and give students the opportunity to meet others from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
Our office conducts student needs assessments and provides support through outreach, marketing, and introducing campus resources to students. We also implement campus-wide and college programming and events to promote the inclusion of non-resident students. Some examples of programs that have been implemented in the past include an All-Campus Thanksgiving Feast, mentorship programs, cultural series, informational workshops, career development trainings, housing workshops, classroom help, social events, and sightseeing bus trips around the San Diego community!
