Community Centers

There are a number of involvement opportunities at the different community centers on campus.  Listed below is a summary of the community centers and a brief overview of how students can get involved at these places on campus.  Don't forget to click on the links, if you would like to be linked directly to one of the center's main webpages.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center (LGBTRC)

The LGBTRC fosters a community amongst LGBT faculty, staff, students, alumni and the UCSD Community by creating a visible presence on campus. It strives to educate the UCSD community about LGBTQIA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, Intersex, and Asexual) issues. The center is packed with events! From meetings of over a dozen organizations that partner with the center, to special events that facilitate dialogue there is always something going on. Additionally, it is an open and safe space to study, eat, or nap. Come browse the center’s library with over 2,000 books, films, and journals for use by the campus community. The LGBTRC is located in the Old Student Center above Hi Thai; look for the rainbow flag! The Women's Center

The Women’s Center finds its guiding principles in the multiple FACES of the community: Feminism, Awareness, Community, Empowerment, and Social Justice. The Women’s center provides a study space, napping area, kitchen and rooms for reservation. It has a library with over 3,000 books relating to women’s issues, feminism, social justice and more. Additionally the Women’s center is home to one of four lactation rooms on campus to provide a space for breast feeding mothers. The center provides internships for students who would like to get more involved and gain valuable experience. It sponsors events and organizations by providing resources and helping plan the event. It also holds its own programing including the weekly Gender Buffet on Fridays from 12:00-1:30 where various issues about gender and sexuality are discussed. Stop by to discuss gender and sexuality or just to hang out!

The Cross Cultural Center (CCC)

The primary goals of the CCC are to support historically under-represented groups and foster an equity minded campus culture. The CCC is used for a large number of purposes. From students just wanting to hang out, teaching assistants holding office hours, or organizations holding weekly meetings to large scale events and programs, it’s all at the Cross! The Cross has six rooms which can be rented out for organization meetings or events which vary greatly in occupancy and style.  In these rooms, the center often hosts programming aimed at diversity, and also holds social justice trainings and workshops. Students can get involved in the center is through the undergraduate internship program which provides students a yearlong internship at the cross. The Center is located on the second floor of Price Center East, look for the giant "CCC"!

The International Center (IC)

The mission of the UCSD International Center is to promote international exchange and education through fostering cultural competence and promoting international study abroad. The center provides assistance for UCSD students wishing to travel abroad as well as for current international students at UCSD. The International center partners with cultural organizations on campus and facilitates its own organization Iclub which puts on many events for international students in San Diego. If you are thinking about studying abroad the First Step Programs at the IC will educate you about choosing a program and meeting with an advisor. The IC is located in the Old Student Center across from Center Hall on library walk. It has many facilities even the only thrift shop on campus! Every Friday the center hosts an international lunch from 12 noon- 1:15 pm for only $5 so come out and sample international cuisine!
