Global Ambassadors Program (GAP)

The Global Ambassadors Program (GAP) is a peer mentoring program designed to assist incoming undergraduate international and out-of-state students in acclimating to a new environment and making a smooth transition into university life. GAP Mentors provide friendly support in order to engage our undergraduate non-resident students and help them create solid relationships within the UC San Diego campus.

GAP Mentors introduce incoming international and out-of-state students to life at UCSD through:

  • Pre-arrival Communication
  • Peer Mentoring
  • Social Gatherings

GAP Mentors will provide frequent, informal guidance and social, academic, and educational support to incoming student mentees. GAP Mentors and incoming student mentees are expected to communicate regularly during the summer. During these regular communications, mentees can pose questions and gain insight from their mentor about campus life and resources. GAP participants are encouraged to engage in as many activities as possible to enhance the benefits and relationships gained from this mentorship program. At the beginning of fall quarter, we host a GAP Mixer so that Mentors and Mentees can meet each other in person!

  • Meet new friends from diverse backgrounds
  • Learn about UC San Diego and campus resources available to students
  • Attend fun events on and off-campus!
  • Improve your cross-communication skills and boost your confidence in speaking the English language
  • Gain insight on different cultural values and world views
  • Learn about slang and the California lifestyle
  • Acquire knowledge on cultural adjustment, communication styles and personal leadership
  • Get an inside perspective on campus life at UC San Diego – learn where to eat, how to get around San Diego, where to shop, how to get involved, and much more!
  • Have Fun!

We start recruiting for mentors and mentees during Spring Quarter!
