Language Support

English in Action (EIA)

The English-in-Action (EIA) conversation program (run by the International Students & Programs Office) matches international students with volunteer conversation leaders to help our international visitors with conversational English language skills, simultaneously helping them to acquire a better understanding of American culture and to acclimate more quickly to their new environment. EIA volunteers are community members, faculty, staff, and students.
Volunteers and participants usually meet once a week for 1 to 2 hours at a day, time and location that is convenient for both. The EIA program is a rewarding learning experience for the international guest and volunteer, as they both gain considerable cultural insight and a deeper understanding and appreciation for diversity.

Language Conversation Tables (LCTs)

Language Conversation Tables (run by International House) provide the chance to teach and learn a language in a natural environment, through conversation with someone who is fluent in that language. Each quarter a variety of language tables are hosted and attended by students, staff, faculty, and anyone from the public willing to join. They take place weekly or once every three weeks.

Academic Integrity

What is Contract Cheating?

Getting someone else to create (in part or completely) an assignment for you. Whether you pay someone to help you or they do it as a favor, having someone else work on an assignment for you is not allowed.

For example:

  • An essay writing service
  • A friend, classmate, or family member
  • Websites
  • Private "tutors"
  • Copy editors

Red Flags:

  • Someone messaging you (e.g. on Twitter) offering to help out with your homework assignments or take care of your paper.
  • The way a “tutor” talks about their services makes you feel nervous.

Go to Academic Integrity's website to learn more about how to excel with integrity! That's why using campus resources for tutoring and language support is a great option!
